This area has its good and bad points depending on what you are looking for. If you are looking for quiet away from everything camping, this will be perfect for you. However if you have a problem being disconnected you’ll want to pick another place. Cell service is spotty at best. It’s about 15 minutes to base and another 10 or so to get to the closest town. Good parts about this campground is the spots. Most are pull through and very spacious. Each spot has its own large fire pit. The laundry room was currently closed due to damage to the building with no eta on repairs to be completed and as with most military MWR facilities they are at the bottom of the priority list for projects. There is a large pond you can fish on and large playground. We spent most of our time outside around the fire enjoying family time without electronics, it was a pleasant surprise how well everyone did without being able to stream, especially at night, but it was a great week, with perfect weather so we could enjoy the outside time, cooking hot dogs on the fire and family time. You do also hear the occasional range firing (heavy artillery ranges across the street to the recreation area) and Apache’s flying overhead. We did stay over Thanksgiving week so it is possible it may be more prominent other times of the year but it was barely noticeable. Camp host was available and helpful, pointed us to a local laundry mat that was offering free wash while we were there, lent us a rake and hatchet to help make our fire.
