Pelican Roost, there are 2 campgrounds here, one designed more for long term campers (mostly snowbirds, a few homesteaders), and then Pelican Roost. The spaces are a little tight here but it is right at the mouth of the shipping lanes at the Atlantic Ocean. You are limited to 2 week stay in the back row, and 1 week in the front row. The view is awesome, there is a dog run right across the street which helps with the smaller spaces. The beach is less than a half mile up the road, so if you are up for it you can walk there and back. The NEX and commissary are a bit away (outside the gate, takes about 15 minutes to get there and it’s hidden behind a shopping center so it is difficult to find). There is a small NEX close to the campground but with very basic limited selection of things. Walmart was about 25 minute drive. The staff at the office was very helpful and friendly, and the best part of this campground, if the view was not enough, is the fact they offer free laundry. And to top it off they are also the nicest washer/dryers we’ve seen at any campground we’ve stayed at.
It was a little cold on our way south by the time we got there at the end of November, but because of the distance from Orlando and the free laundry we decided we would stay again on our trip north. We got a front row space this time, which is pull through vs back in, and only #2 more a night. I will say we fell more in love with the campground this time, the pull through site was a bit bigger (and we had one of the smaller ones), the laundry still free, Better views of the water, able to use the beach, and the spot we had in November was backed up to the ball fields, so there was practice several nights while we were there. Staying in April, the breeze that froze us out in November made it a very comfortable outdoor time and experience. We will be stopping again when we head back down to Florida again.
